There are probably a good dozen or so fashion magazines who are filling the gap left by Elein Fleiss’ departure from Purple magazine and its subsequent transformation into the self-obsessed fashion glossy it has become since. While one might debate whether that is a void that needs filling or if we shouldn’t just let times move on, Spanish 400-something-page tome Many of Them is no doubt one of the more welcome sloppy seconds.
Essentially a pet project by Spanish photographer Antonio Macarro, it’s not surprisingly heavy on (Macarro’s) photography and follows the same style throughout – which one could welcome as pleasantly consistent or criticize for lack of adventure (and how many images does one need with the finger in front of the lens for added haziness? Many of Them must contain about a good hundred or so). The same goes for the publication as a whole: on one hand, one might argue that this is nothing new, ticking all the right and not necessarily freshest boxes, on the other it’s simply super nicely done and a reassuringly old school sophisticated and down to earth approach to fashion. With winter approaching, we think there is nothing wrong with a little well-executed nostalgia.

Dear kvr,
“There are probably a good dozen or so fashion magazines who are filling the gap left by Elein Fleiss’ departure from Purple magazine…”
Which magazines are you thinking of? I have been longing for Les Cahiers Purple #2 for what seems like an eternity now. Do you happen to know if and in that case when it will be released? I know Elein Fleiss is writing in Here and there + The Plant Journal. Is she writing in any other magazines as well?
Best regards,
Joakim
