WHAT DREAMS

8½ Foundation

8½ Foundation

For those who have been keeping up, you might remember Tilda Swinton’s the 8½  Foundation, mentioned in her now sold out interview with mono.kultur. Named after the eponymous Fellini film, the Scotland-based foundation was inspired by the musings of  her then eight-and-a-half years old son and dedicates itself to gifting free benchmark films to children at that curious mid-age, creating a ‘movie birthday,’ in its words. When virtually all movies seem accessible with a few clicks, the 8½ Foundation hearkens back to cinema’s magical heart, sending off each film embraced by a bow and accompanied by a letter. In so, it treats childhood as what it should be–a delicate, fantastical time where reality coalesces with dreams and wishes.
