Made is a curious and pretty bling – as in very white – space on the ninth floor of Haus des Reisens on Alexanderplatz. Their focus is to bring people from different media together and work out a new collaboration, so you never really know what to expect, which I suppose is the idea. It can be a little hit and miss at times, but their latest project this Sunday sounds promising indeed, with a prestigious triple bill uniting London-based media collective Random International, renowned choreographer Wayne McGregor and composer Max Richter. Even better, it’s free, if you sign up in advance. Find out more here.

The digital revolution of the last decade has unleashed creativity and talent of people in an unprecedented way, unleashing unlimited creative opportunities. But does democratized culture mean better art, film, music and literature or is true talent instead flooded and drowned in the vast digital ocean of mass culture? Is it cultural democracy or mediocrity? This is the question addressed by PressPausePlay, a documentary film containing interviews with some of the world’s most influential creators of the digital era.

That’s when pants come down and it’s time to get down to the things that are of real human interest, the things that reveal the glory of the Internet in all its greatness. Because where else could you be informed in the most charming manner about a Twitter ode to the Boiler Man; lovingly recreated sets of Back to the Future II – in Lego that is; weirdly touching family portraits of 70s rock stars; and a disturbingly addictive list of unusual deaths (try this for starters: ‘1916: Grigori Rasputin, Russian mystic, was reportedly poisoned, shot in the head, shot three more times, bludgeoned, and then thrown into a frozen river after being castrated. When his body washed ashore, an autopsy showed the cause of death to be hypothermia; however, some now doubt the credibility of this account.’) Exactly – and that is just for this week. Because come Friday, come The Weekender. Many thanks for that.

The time is now, cue Art Berlin – a blog, review and listings site all in one, dedicated to… exactly.

Not that this hasn’t been tried before, but without the editorial flair that Art Berlin has to offer, where also bars, hotels and weekends find their place – this being Berlin after all, with its nightlife being the other great cultural asset of the city. Alas, Art Berlin is only in German, which feels kind of old-fashioned in a city that attracts a young art clientele from abroad like no other.

Where’s the focus? But of course, I knew there must be good stuff out there, I only couldn’t be bothered to look out for it.

This might all change now that I noticed Bernd Kuchenbeiser – the man who signed our popular issue #26 on ECM and the accompanying app for iPad – and his A Book A Day Tweet, where he, quite literally, proposes one art or design book a day. Now trust us, this is someone who really knows what he is talking about – Bernd is an avid collector and connoisseur as far as design is concerned – after all, he was the first subscriber to mono.kultur, long before we were offering any such thing. So if books are your poison, you might want to make this a daily stopping point.
