It’s slightly amusing to read an exhibition statement like this on the page of a museum for modern art: ‘Wine is a potent force in contemporary life, perhaps the only comestible to produce its own visual culture. How Wine Became Modern, the first exhibition of its kind, looks at the world of wine and the role that architecture, design, and media have played in its stunning transformation over the past three decades.’ Desperate for new subjects in art, anyone?
But then when I heard what Sissel Tolaas, our olfactory cover star of issue #23, had planned for the exhibition my curiosity was tickled, and with the brilliant architecture office Diller Scofidio + Renfro involved not only in the exhibition design but the entire conception of the show, one can safely presume that this will be more than a gap filler opening its doors tonight.
