BUILDING IMPATIENCE

It’s really not fair sometimes to announce things that won’t be available until autumn, especially when it’s something as mouth-watering and irritatingly must-have-now-inspiring as our recent cover star’s Chris Ware’s latest magnum opus, Building Stories. As we all know, Chris Ware only publishes in what feels like once in a decade, but if he does, it means that the results might come in sight of his own expectations and will most certainly exceed anyone else’s – and yes, Building Stories looks once again stunningly brilliant.

Finally gathering the various episodes and stories based on the inhabitants of an apartment building that were previously published in his Acme Novelty Library, the collection comes in a cardboard box with 14 different booklets, fold-outs, cards, etc., presenting each story of the building in its own appropriate form. See more here and here and listen carefully as the bar for graphic novels has quietly been raised a few notches.
