RYAN MCGINLEY VS SIGUR ROS

It’s become somewhat fashionable for bands (who can afford it) to produce not just one or two videos, but one for each track of a new album, with inevitably varying success – but in the case of Iceland’s Sigur Rós‘ cinematic music, the conjunction of sound and image for once really makes sense. They have been unveiling films to their latest offering Valtari since May, with our cover star Ryan McGinley joining the crop yesterday. Personally, I’ve never been quite convinced by Ryan’s video work so far, but with his simple but mesmerizing ‘little summer poem to New York City’ he finally succeeded in bringing the charm and beauty of his photography into motion. Take a few minutes of your life, lean back and indulge.

[...] Speaking of producing videos not just for a track but an entire album, spare a moment for lovely and wondrous Micachu who worked together with director Chloe Hayward to produce a visual sort of dream diary for her latest album Never – and weirdly wonderful they all are, in their own way. Unashamedly low-budget, cheaply put together and by no means new, they all have this spaced out quality that suits Micachu so very well. See them all here. This was written by kvr.
