The world of Henry Darger is worth examining. The secretly written 15.143 pages long fantasy fiction masterpiece entitled The Story of the Vivian Girls, in What Is Known as the Realms of the Unreal, of the Glandeco-Angelinnian War Storm, Caused by the Child Slave Rebellion is about a war between children-like characters with mixed genders. Darger’s illustrations depicting the story – raising questions of pedophilia – point to a world of torture as well as beauty, reflecting the aesthetics of Ottoman and Persian miniatures and 13th century religious wall paintings.
