ALTERNATIVES IN PRINT: GATHER

Gather Journal is an independent cooking magazine from Brooklyn. Actually, it is little more than a compilation of recipes, seasonally curated and divided into different stages of a sumptuous dinner, with some charming footnotes and little else. Apart from the lushest and most stylishly mouthwatering food photography you will ever have come across, that is – which, along its sweet tonality in writing and efficient design (even though the nostalgic design approach so popular these days really wasn’t necessary), is what makes Gather such a great gem of a magazine with obviously a lot of love and care in its bones. If cooking magazines are meant to make you cook, then I for one am already rolling up my sleeves – a notion which, at least among my circle of friends, might raise some eyebrows.
