ILLUSTRATIVE will return to Berlin to celebrate the cutting edge works of contemporary graphic art. From 16 October to 1 November 2009, ILLUSTRATIVE is featuring an inspiring cornucopia of visual culture. More than 60 international artists participate, including Olaf Hajek, Erik Mark Sandberg, Keiichi Tanaami and Tomer Hanuka (Waltz with Bashir). ILLUSTRATIVE is preceded by the Swatch Young Illustrators Award. As an interesting side project, the new issue of Der Freitag (a German weekly newspaper) features not a single photograph but only illustrations, a concept that is revolutionary in Germany as it is fairly uncommon for newspapers here to use illustrations at all (you can find caricatures quite often but they are more for a quick consumption).
