THIRTY DAYS WITH THE FAMILY

family-thirty-daysSometimes one can’t help that feeling of being in the wrong place – tomorrow, I’d certainly like to be in New York for the temporary relocation of our friends at LA bookstore Family, who were among the first to bring mono.kultur to the US. They will be opening a temporary 4200 sq foot space in New York’s Tribeca district as part of the Thirty Days festival, hosting not only their excellent array of magazines, books, records and ephemera, but also an exhibition of LA art, featuring the likes of Ed Templeton, Rodarte or the exquisite Hamburger Eyes as well as a series of lectures, concerts, events, drink-ups… Come to think of it, I’d also like to be there for a performance by Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore on April 10, and Aaron Rose digging into his archive of obscure and long-forgotten VHS-tapes on April 12, and Tim Barber presenting a ‘Mystery Night’ on April 25, and Art Spiegelmann discussing his work on May 4, and, and, and… Anyway, get some first impressions here.
