As you might have noticed, we are all big fans of TV series The Wire, so it’s with great anticipation we see the return of Wire’s mastermind David Simon with his new series Treme, examining New Orleans after the Katrina hurricane, intertwining the city’s great musical history with its current desolate state and the effects of the political failures on its inhabitants. The first of ten episodes screened on HBO on April 11, and two days later a second season was confirmed. It is off to a slow start, taking plenty of time to introduce a variety of characters and slowly, slowly developing parallel plot lines, causing mixed reviews so far, especially after the disappointing mini-series Generation Kill. But then again, when you watch the first episodes of The Wire, there isn’t exactly much going on. It’s only with time that it all begins paying off, so we’ll definitely stay tuned on Treme.
