Watching Dimensions

I was almost going to post something on the almighty Vuvuzela today. But others have covered this subject neatly.
Plus, I found this animation by digital art pioneer Manfred Mohr who’s birthday we missed last week. If you’re not so much into watching two-dimensional balls, try watching this multi-dimensional cube.

THE ART OF CONVERSATION

We like design, we like the exchange of views and collaborations, we like London, we like Berlin – The Art of Conversation feels almost custom-made. Bank in Berlin and Inventory in London invited 10 graphic design studios each in Berlin and London to engage in a visual game of Chinese Whispers, including regular mono.kultur contributors [...]

KUNSTLERHAUS BETHANIEN HAS MOVED TO NEW PREMISES

After more than 35 years in the Bethanien castle-like building on Mariannenplatz in Kreuzberg, Künstlerhaus Bethanien has moved. Surely you don’t need us to tell you that the World Cup 2010 started today. But if you happen like us to have forgotten to organize for a football calendar this year, then do not fret: we’re here to help. Just drag your very own group tables below to your desktop, print them out in [...]

R.I.P. SIGMAR

Sigmar Polke has been on our list for a potential issue of mono.kultur for a long time – alas, too late: we were sad to hear that Polke died last night. Rest in peace!

PROLOGUE TO ETERNITY

Even though the upcoming weeks are going to be all about that soccer mayhem, it’s time for Thursday’s recommended read: Macedonio Fernández – The Museum of Eterna’s Novel (The First Good Novel) (Open Letter Books)
“Macedonio is metaphysics, is literature. Whoever preceded him might shine in history, but they were all rough drafts of Macedonio,” a [...]

DIGITAL ARCHAEOLOGY

While reading about Web visuals I came across this article from designer and critic Max Bruinsma, for Eye magazine, about The 1st International Browserday, a design student competition which took place in 1998, in Amsterdam, based on the concept of reinventing Netscape’s browser, from its roots to visuals.
The article features some of the 38 designs [...]

TEMPORARY SHOWROOM

Speaking of mono.gramm, we should also mention that Berlin’s excellent Temporary Showroom on Kastanienallee has added our current summer collection to its roster. Focused primarily on young and often Berlin-based designers, Temporary Showroom has become an institution on the Berlin fashion circuit with its beautiful space and tight and stylish selection of independent labels.
Oh, and [...]

SUMMERS TO COME

We’ve been shooting the new collection of mono.gramm for summer 2011 last week…
