HORZON HORIZON

Rafael Horzon is a bit of an enigma in Berlin – famous for his one and only book shelf system, which is, well, why don’t we call it minimal. Horzon is the kind of furniture designer that makes the kind of furniture that anyone would come up with. Only he makes it better. So buying a Horzon piece is a little like buying a piece of default furniture, but always with a wink of the eye. He’s also just published a book with the renowned Suhrkamp Verlag, an autobiography of sorts? Supposedly, the idea for the famous Horzon book shelf was born on a trip to the USA in 1999, where Horzon deliberately collected 100 business ideas, the best and last of which – designing furniture – he put into practice, opening his own store 10 days after his return to Berlin. True. Or not? With Horzon, one can never really be sure, but one will always be entertained.
