MONO.CONTRIBUTORS #01: MARIO LOMBARDO

It being our birthday and all, we promised to introduce some of our contributors without whom mono.kultur would not have been possible. So where better to start with Mario Lombardo, who not only designed our current issue, but also gave a really inspiring talk yesterday at our little design presentation, along with our friends at Node Berlin Oslo. All in all an admittedly improvised but very charming affair, but Mario’s years of experience with editorial design – having art-directed German pop magazine Spex for many years, as well as the short-lived last incarnation of Liebling magazine or various projects for Zitty – gave some beautiful insights into the publishing business and the entire process behind putting together a magazine, including the absurdities that occur in daily life and how those sometimes find their way onto paper. It was beautiful to observe his thought process and hands-on approach to design and how good design can and should interact with life rather than being a matter of pixels and point sizes.

But Mr. Lombardo tends to get embarrassed by too much praise, so we’ll stop here. Let it just be said that Gestalten publishers will release the first monograph of his work very soon.
