LESSONS IN DESIGN: FITZGERALD REVISITED

Anyone who has ever set foot into a German bookstore can testify that aesthetically, they can be a nasty affair. Apart from the odd exception, German book jackets tend to be nothing short of appalling, especially when compared to some of our European and American peers.

Such as the venerable house of Penguin who have frequently reinvented the book jacket in style. Of course, with such a great heritage behind you, there’s no reason not to flirt a little with history, especially when it’s executed as beautifully as the re-edition of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s works for his 70th anniversary of death, with all jackets designed by Penguin’s senior designer Coralie Bickford-Smith. Time to head to the British bookstore…
