BLUES BEFORE SUNRISE

My favourite time of the day is dusk when the sky starts to turn dark blue so I was most intrigued to hear about Steve McQueen’s current Temporary Stedelijk 3 project, Blues Before Sunrise. For two weeks (March 7 – 25) all 275 lamps in Amsterdam’s largest public park, Vondelpark will radiate blue light. Blues Before Sunrise takes its title from a 1934 Blues standard written by American pianist Leroy Carr and performed with American guitarist and singer Scrapper Blackwell. “The soul of the piece comes from the Blues,” says McQueen. “It haunts like no other music can.”
