Officially, Ai Weiwei’s year of house arrest should have come to a close this week, but instead, the Chinese government decided to hang on to his passport, on new charges of ‘pornography and bigamy’. While his status worldwide seems to know no boundaries, at home in China his position is still anything but secure.
