PAST PRESENT FUTURE

It’s rare that architecture photography manages to make a comment not on architecture, but the passing of time, an international crisis and a current sports event all at the same time – as does Jamie McGregor Smith’s series Borrow, Build Abandon on the desolate state of the sites of the Olympic Games in 2004 in Athens. His haunting images of the abandoned buildings and stadiums left to decay obviously not only make you wonder about the realities behind the world’s biggest sports event that has us all enraptured for a few weeks, but also tie in frighteningly with the ongoing crisis of Greece and the euro. The series works on so many different levels, it’s impressive. Find out more in a short interview over at It’s Nice That.
