RENCONTRES INTERNATIONALES

The Festival Rencontres Internationales opens next Tuesday at Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin (description from the HKW website):

The distinction between documentary and fictional approaches is increasingly blurring. Our viewing habits are outdated, new challenges demand new approaches. The Festival Rencontres Internationales aims to meet those demands: an international selection of 150 hitherto unreleased works of contemporary audio-visual art from France, Germany, Spain and 40 other countries. The program is curated by the Paris-based curators Nathalie Hénon and Jean-Francois Rettig. In a series of film screenings, a forum and workshops, artists, audiences and experts can meet for an exchange on new practices of contemporary audio-visual creativity.

Rencontres Internationales is a unique platform in Europe that presents the latest works by filmmakers and artists in an exchange between three cities. Following the Palais de Tokyo in Paris and the Filmoteca Española in Madrid, the HKW is the third stop on the itinerary. Featuring works by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Rosa Barba, François Bucher, Daya Cahen, Clement Cogitore, Tony Cokes, Raphaël Cuomo & Maria Iorio, Peter Downsbrough, Redmond Entwistle, Anton Ginzburg, Johan Grimonprez, Crispin Gurholt, Bjørn Melhus, John Menick, Christian Merlhiot, Tejal Shah, Muriel Toulemonde, Sarah Vanagt, Phillip Warnell, Paul Wong, Julius Ziz and others.
