Exactly one week ago opened Design is a State of Mind, the second ever design exhibition on the sacred grounds of London’s Serpentine Gallery, curated by our friend Martino Gamper, no less. Using shelving systems ranging from the 1930s to today by designers such as Ettore Sottsass and IKEA – nice touch – to display objects by a wide range of young and young-ish designers as well as an extensive library of contemporary furniture manufacturing catalogues from around the world. Industry and the handmade have always played an important role in Martino’s work, as you can find out in our issue #32 with the young/ish Italian designer, or better still, by dropping into what promises to be a really fun show.
