LOST & FOUND IN MELBOURNE

If you’re planning a visit to Australia in the upcoming months… maybe to have a look at the Biennale of Sydney that opens this week? and maybe a trip to Melbourne too? If you’re visiting Melbourne you might like to see if you can stay at the temporary Lost & Found Hotel Room and sleep on pillow cases designed by mono.kultur #16 Miranda July. Part publication, part hotel room, part cultural therapist, part gallery and part guide, the Lost & Found Hotel Room is open for three months from 1 June to 31 August 2010.  For the past four years Lost & Found have been sending out email updates about Melbourne’s creative people, spaces, projects and events – now they’re inviting you to visit…

‘Our thinking is that interesting people having a good experience in Melbourne and talking about it is one of the best ways to get other people to visit. So what we’ve done is lease a room in the Little Collins Hotel in the city for three months and re-fit it to showcase some of Melbourne’s better creative people and objects ranging from Aesop products to furniture by Native and records by a bunch of Melbourne bands. It’s a bit more like an object gallery than a hotel room. Subscribers to the Lost & Found publication can stay at the hotel for free, you just apply online. We’re hoping that the sorts of people who read The Internetwork and our current Lost & Found subscribers get the idea and come to stay. I love this project for a few reasons, not just because it’s a hotel, but also because it has put us in direct touch with some fascinating people along the way. There are the people that have supplied products for the room, but we also checked out a few other hotels when searching for a site and they were all great. It feels like the start of something really precious.’
