RECOMMENDED: POLYGAMISTS

If you haven’t had a chance to catch HBO’s Big Love then I highly recommend that you do. Season 4 of the series is now finished and it really amazes with a most outrageous and brilliantly clever story line.

Big Love is a about a polygamist family living in Utah. There is the husband – Bill Hendrickson (played by Bill Paxton) with his three wives Barb (Jeanne Tripplehorn), Margene (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nicki (Chloe Sevigny), plus several children. They want to be modern and “normal” in their mormon-based approach to family and religion, while the more traditional polygamists still live in the weird and creepy world of Juniper Creek – a polygamist compound in the middle of nowhere, incidentally the place where Bill’s family still lives and where he grew up. Located at Juniper Creek are the headquarters of a corrupt polygamist sect with their leader/ false prophet Roman Grant (played by the cult 80’s actor Harry Dean Stanton). Their old-fashioned beliefs are a constant threat to the Hendrickson’s business and of course their way of life.

Each season features a new artist responsible for the music, including Mark Mothersbough and David Byrne, which gives a whole new mood to the story in every season. You’ll find yourself hating and loving the characters at the same time –  it can only be described as compelling and thought-provoking drama. It also contains the most outrageous hair styles and costumes.
