LESSONS IN DESIGN: PROJECT THIRTY-THREE

Ah, record covers… don’t you miss them in times of torrents and iTunes? There should be entire sites dedicated to preserving the fine art of record sleeve design, and in fact there are: Project Thirty-Three is a great blog by Seattle-based record store Jive Time dedicated entirely to, as they put it, ‘circles and dots and their less jovial but equally effective cousins, squares, rectangles and triangles, and the brilliant designers that make them come to life on album covers’. This should keep you busy for some time, before you head over to their sister sites presenting hysterical defaced album covers, radically modern classical music sleeves, mind-expanding psychedelic album art (‘Peace, love and Prokofiev’) and, for the advanced, stereo banners. And now back to iTunes, which doesn’t seem like such a great idea anymore, all of a sudden.
