MADE IN GERMANY: SONIC PIECES

This time, ‘Made in Germany’ may be taken quite literally, since Berlin-based label Sonic Pieces has a rather unusual approach to that object called CD (or vinyl): in times where downloads and MP3s have taken over the music industry, Sonic Pieces are heading exactly in the opposite direction of craft and hands-on personal engagement, packaging each and every item in their back catalogue by hand. And by packaging, we don’t mean sticking plastic jewel cases into envelopes, but rather bookbinding and screenprinting and gluing each CD manually. And what other label can you think of where you can be sure that each and every item went through the hands of the label owner? Maybe ‘Made with Love’ would be the better tagline here.

Equal care goes not only into the design, but also into the selection of their artists, with a similar eye-to-eye approach as in everything they do. As it happens, musically Sonic Pieces represent exactly the space between electronic and classical music that we were searching for for our book release party tomorrow evening, and we are so happy that they agreed to join us for the night.
