Dear Friends,
we’re on a roll now, as you might have noticed, so just after the dust has settled after Tuesday, we’re already on to our third mono.klub in the space of ten days – and this is a special one, what feels like a birthday present to ourselves:
And thus, we’re extremely pleased to invite you to the German premiere of I Am Love, with none other than Ms Tilda Swinton in attendance and ready to answer any questions in an open Q/A with Anatol Weber after the screening. And since special events demand for special locations, we managed to persuade the venerable Kino International to host us for the evening, with some drinks and music in their stunning foyer afterwards.
I Am Love is the new film by Italian director Luca Guadagnino, in which Tilda Swinton plays a Russian wife married into a wealthy Italian family on the brink of change, struggling to free herself from the claustrophobic constraints of her married life. The sumptuous drama unfolds as she begins an affair with a friend and business partner of her son.
More than just an acting role for Tilda Swinton, she was actually closely involved in developing I Am Love from the very beginning, from producing the film to overseeing all the details in close collaboration with director Luca Guadagnino. The two have set up a film production company called The Love Factory, aimed at celebrating a new ’sensational’ cinema that places equal importance on style and ambiance as on story and dialogue. And if the lush melodrama of I Am Love is anything to go by, we can certainly look forward to their next projects. But all this and more you can ask Ms Swinton in person this Monday, at mono.klub #29 at Kino International.
